We’re back with our weekly posts! We took a week to get our Calendar up and running, but now it’s looking nice and full for the week. Don’t worry, we’re going to keep these Best Events posts coming each week! It’s Shaky Beats week, but there’s plenty of music to get yourself hyped up – like Breathe Carolina at Opera. Not into EDM? Well the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has its free concert in the park! You can also check out the cast of Whose Line is it Anyway at the Tabernacle on Tuesday, or the open of Benjamin Franklin: American Gigolo for some laughs!

  • Butcher Brown is playing at Aisle 5 at 9pm. Butcher is a progressive jazz band reminiscent of those from the 60’s and 70’s. They add tones of modern funk and hip-hop to their music for a new twist. The opener is Visitors – an instrumental collaboration based in improvisation and mixed-meter rhythm.

  • Dad’s Garage is hosting their monthly game night starting at 7pm! They’ll have board games and video games, plus plenty of drinks for everyone. It’s free to come out and play so be sure to stop by and bring friends!
  • Come out to the All the Nerdy Ladies Meet-Up at Joystick! Ever feel like there are no other nerdy girls around? Well here’s your answer – All the Nerdy Ladies is a relaxed social hour open to everyone to come by and chat. The meet-up is from 7-10pm.

  • Brendan James will be playing at Eddie’s Attic! Brendan is a piano-based singer-songwriter. He’s just released his fifth album “Simplify” which is an elegant and emotionally direct collection of jams. He’s been featured on shows such as Private Practice, American Idol, Bones, So You Think You Can Dance, and One Tree Hill. Doors at 6:30, show at 7:30pm.

  • Intro to Watercolor is an ongoing workshop taught by local artist Crystal Desai. Students will learn about watercolor materials and techniques, as well as styles from realism to abstraction.

  • ContrastATL is holding its pre-Shaky Beats Techno and Future Industrial House night at 9pm. UUEIRD is exploring some deep and dark dance music in the forefront of the industrial EDM sub-genre. Your lineup includes Shift Mojo, Asesame, and CANVAS. Come out to Edgewood Speakeasy to dance like it’s 2020.
  • Come out to Opera to check out Breathe Carolina! The EDM duo hails from Denver and is comprised of David Schmitt and Tommy Cooperman. Breathe Carolina has had radio hits as well as huge hits within the EDM community. Come out and you’re guaranteed a solid show, Opera always kills it with EDM.

  • Come out to the Laughing Skull Lounge for Comedy Clubhouse! Comedians Andrew George and Bob Place host the Comedy Clubhouse this Thursday! Comedians will get 5 minutes to do 3 things: Prepare material, crowd work, and improv on a topic from “The Wheel”. Meanwhile Andrew and Bob will chime in with commentary, tags, premises, and jokes.   • The Wonder Years are a Philly band made up of old friends, playing rock and roll music like they mean it. They’ve played in 30 countries and now they’re bringing their talents to the Masquerade. Get your tickets here. Show starts at 6pm.
  • Amanda Anne Platt and The Honeycutters are coming to Eddie’s Attic as part of a tour with their new self-titled album. They have an old-school country attitude with influences of rock and folk. Platt has been universally praised along with the rest of the Honeycutters. Doors open at 6, show starts at 7pm.
  • Head to the Atlanta Beltline’s Historic Fourth Ward Park at 7:30pm for an evening show with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Assistant Conductor Stephen Mulligan and Associate Concertmaster Justin Bruns will lead the ASO in a program featuring Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Rossini’s Overture to L’italiana in Algeri and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.4, “Italian.” This event is going to be phenomenal, and it’s totally free! For the non-classically inclined, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is one of the most impressive pieces to hear live. See it, hear it, love it!
  • Venkman’s Free Early Show will feature the Atlanta Latin Jazz Orchestra. The Atlanta Latin Jazz Orchestra is Atlanta’s newest sound. Legendary music from Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, and Perez Prado plus the newest Latin JAzz Big Band hits will keep you on your feet. The Orchestra is led by the talented Rob Opitz so you’ll be in good hands all night.
  • The Lil Smokies will be playing at Smith’s Olde Bar at 8pm. With their roots submerged in the thick buttery mud of traditional bluegrass, The Lil Smokies have sonically blossomed into a leading player in the progressive acoustic sphere, creating a new and wholly unique, melody driven sound of their own. The Montana quintet has recently won Best Band from the International Bluegrass Music Association.
  • CHEE will be playing at Aisle 5 at 9pm. South African producer CHEE has a unique hybrid design due to his heavy dancefloor drum&bass sound mixed with raw rap. Come too for Shield, Hiku, and Houman.
  • Lindsay Lou will be playing at Eddie’s Attic at 9pm. Lindsay has been featured in festivals from Scotland to California with their deep grooves. Come for the soul and intensity, stay for the themes and intimacy.

There’s a whole lot going on this weekend! We have the Inman Park Festival, the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, the Dad’s Garage World Domination Improv tournament, Atlanta Burger Week, and ZooPaws! Plus the grand opening of the Atlanta Beltline Center! Just so much to do!

  • The Inman Park Festival is this weekend and includes a wonderful “Tour of Homes”. The tour is self-conducted and allows you to meander through some of the most beautiful homes and buildings in the Inman Park area. The tour runs Friday from 12-4pm.   • Mass Collective (364 Nelson St. NW) will feature an Intro to Welding Class specializing in MIG Safety and Basics courtesy of instructor Bria Sativa Aguayo. The 4 hour course will cover fundamentals of prepping and joining stock metal with welding. You’ll get experience with angle grinders, welders, and safety tool setup. The course runs $115 but is well worth the expense for those interested in welding.
  • Mark Warren will be at Posman Books in Ponce City Market (675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE) to sign copies of his new book Adobe Moon from 1-3pm. Adobe Moon is the first in a trilogy exploring the life and history of Wyatt Earp, written with expansive research on Mark’s part.

  • Live! At the Battery (825 Battery Ave SE) will hold their 2nd annual Sound Off Silent Disco! You’ll be set with an LED headset flipping through 3 styles of music for a unique dance experience. Doors open at 8pm, and at 9pm the bar will open up. You can also get food from their new menu until midnight. Get the headset alone for $10 or with 5 drink tickets for $40 here. Having been to a few of these myself, they’re hit or miss and difficult to get right but I have faith that Live! will pull it off.
  • The Basement (1245 Glenwood Ave SE) will have their Keep On Movin’ Dance Party from 10pm onward. Electric Western Records’ Jacob Jones and Reno Bo will be playing Motown, soul, and ‘50s & ‘60s Rock & Roll! Get your tickets here for $7 in advance, $10 night-of.

  • City Winery (650 North Avenue) will hold its Rosé All Day Tasting Party from 1-3pm. You’ll get light bites of cheese and charcuterie and twelves rosés from around the world.

  • The Atlanta Beltline Center (112 Krog St.) opens this weekend! Come visit from 10am-7pm to see the new center in the Atlanta Beltline Partnership’s Stoveworks. To celebrate, it will offer great deals to the public including a Supporter Perks program where a $25 donation between 1-3pm gets you food and beverages from Bar Mercado, Varuni Napoli, Honeysuckle Gelato, Recess, and King of Pops along with Beltline merch and a year of discounts from local businesses. The center itself will be funded by philanthropy and will have Beltline info, merchandise, and programming.
  • Zoo Atlanta and the Atlanta Humane Society will team up for ZooPaws! Grant Park outside the zoo’s front gates will be full of puppies just waiting to be adopted by you. Come out from 10am-2:30pm to see local boutique, boarding, and wellness vendors, food trucks, and get special Zoo Atlanta incentives for families adopting their pets. Adoption fees and policies are controlled by the Humane Society. Unfortunately, you’ll have to leave your current pets at home.
  • The Inman Park Festival will take place this weekend! The festival includes a parade at 2pm on Saturday, live music, and a whole bunch of dance! You can also check out the Arts and Crafts Market and Street Market. Check out our article so you don’t miss a beat.
  • For added emphasis, check out the Inman Park Festival Parade! It’ll start at Edgewood and Euclid at 2pm and will progress to Austin Avenue in Little 5 Points.
  • Up for something a little different? Well come out for the 10th Annual Gnome March World Record Attempt! Last year they had 315 gnomes, but they’re gonna need 479 gnomes to show those Brits who’s boss. If you don’t have your own gnome costume, they’ll have a pop-up Gnome Depot to purchase your gear. The march starts at Gnome Corner (Waddel St. & Edgewood Ave), and will run from 1:30-3:30pm!

Sports:

  • The House of Artists Foundation will be putting on the Celebrate Autism! Fantastic Movie Run 10k. Come out to First United Methodist Church in Powder Springs (4329 Marietta St.) at 7am for a nice run, followed by a post-run celebration from 8am-1pm. They encourage you dressing up as characters from movies, books, and TV. Register here!
  • Atlantic Station is holding the Girls on the Run 5k! The race will be a celebration of women’s health, wellness, and growth. The run kicks off with an expo at 7am and the run begins at 8am. Sign up to run here and volunteer here.
  • Come out to the Battery (800 Battery Ave SE) for RaceTrac’s Run for Research 5k in support of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research! The event will have free food, prizes, and music. The theme of the race is crazy socks, so get your wildest pairs on under your running shoes. Registration opens at 7am, followed by a 1k at 8am and a 5k at 8:30am. Register here!
  • The Chamblee Fun Mud Run is on! Head over to Chamblee Middle School (3601 Sexton Woods Dr.) for a 2.5 mile obstacle course full of mud and excitement. The event begins at 8:30am, but get there by 8:15am for staging. There will be wash-off stations, music, and giveaways. You’ll get muddy so dress right! Register here.
  • Athleta in Atlantic Station (265 18th St. NW) will be putting on a free body flow fitness class from 9-10am. Register here.
  • Our own Atlanta United FC is going up against Montreal Impact FC at Mercedes Benz Stadium at 1pm! Get tickets here, watch it at a sports bar, or hold a viewing party!

  • Eventide Brewing (1015 Grant St SE) is holding some public tasting room hours on Sunday with a pop-up from OK-YAKI! Come by and get some good food and great beer.

  • Septymber will be playing at Smith’s Olde Bar (1578 Piedmont Ave NE) at 7pm with openers Miki Fiki and Jacque Jordan. Septymber is a rap, scat, and soul singer. Tickets run $7 advance, $10 day-of.
  • Hadag Nahash will be playing at City Winery (650 North Avenue) from 8-10pm. Hadag Nahash means Snake Fish, and is one of the most successful Israeli pop acts today incorporating jazz, electro, rock, and Middle Eastern sounds.
  • Dead Horses will be playing at Eddie’s Attic (515 N McDonough St.) with opener Kate Rhudy. It’ll be a night of contemporary indie folk, so get your denim on. The show starts at 9pm, see tickets here for $12-16.

  • Fernbank Museum will host a special “Sensory Friendly” screening of the new movie, Backyard Wilderness 2D in recognition of Autism Awareness Month. The lights will be brighter and the sound will be lower and guests should feel comfortable talking, moving around and even leaving their seats. A special quiet area will be available upon request. The screening starts at 9am. See tickets here.
  • Atlantic Station will hold its Earth Day Marketplace, featuring upcycled and eco-friendly products. The market will run from 11am-4pm.
  • Ponce City Market’s Skyline Park (rooftop amusement park) will celebrate Spring and Earth Day with their Spring Fling. The event starts early, but the adult portion begins at 4pm. One Tree Planted will plant one tree per attendee, and guests can pick where they want their tree planted! Daytime admission is $10, and night admission is $15.

  • NerdLanta Live! will be at Joystick Gamebar (427 Edgewood Ave SE). It’s Atlanta’s only late night nerd talk show, and host Kris Bolz brings geek and pop culture news, guests, reviews, and prizes galore. Doors open at 8:30pm and the show starts at 9pm. Check out their upcoming events page to see what’s in store.

  • The Cherry Blossom Salon (695 Somerset Terrace NE) will host a free event with a local artist pop up from 5-8pm. All donations will go directly to the Atlanta Humane Society. Pours will be sponsored by Unknown Brewing Co, Second Self, and Eventide. Pasta and appetizers will be provided by Saba. Plus a silent auction!

Chris Tucker made a surprise performance a few weeks ago, so this is definitely not something you want to miss.

  • Firenza Pizza (2200 Peachtree Industrial Dr) will be hosting its grand opening this weekend, with a special bonus this Friday and Saturday. The first 10 people in line will get FREE PIZZA FOR A YEAR. The restaurant opens at 11am, so get on this.
  • The 82nd Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival will be in Piedmont Park (Festival Map here) all weekend! Saturday features Backyard Bites & Brews, which features bites and drinks from local Atlanta chefs and breweries. Tickets are $35 online, $40 onsite while available. This provides a VIP experience, with food and beer tasting, VIP tent access, and private seating and restrooms. For $50 online and $60 onsite you can get the same, plus 4 drink tickets for something a bit more boozy.
  • The Atlanta Grilled Cheese Festival HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED to June 16th-17th. Thank you for the tip Alyssa!
  • The Virginia-Highland’s Enchanted Pub Crawl will take place from 4pm-11pm. Not only will this event be the perfect opportunity to spend a day dressed like the princess (or prince) that you are, it will also help raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Tickets start at $25. Registration is at the host bar, Diesel Filling Station.
