Best Events This Week 6/11-6/17

Hello Everyone! We are working on adding some fun new events to the site so get excited! Soon you won’t just be able to contribute your events, but also your media content and even stories! Take a great picture and want to show it off, or have a great time at an event that you want to write about? We’d love to feature it! All this and a new gallery, a new logo, and a new header photo are coming your way!

This week is slow but don’t let that stop you! Music abounds and there are some great events this weekend to get excited for. Juneteenth Atlanta Music Festival, the rescheduled Atlanta Grilled Cheese Festival, the Atlanta Summer Beer Fest, and the Totally 90’s Bar Crawl are all great ways to spend your time and hard earned cash!

Monday

Music:

  • Harry Styles and Kacey Musgraves will be at the Infinite Energy Arena on Monday! For those that can get tickets, the show will run from 8-11pm. Tickets are $48 on the low end, but you can get up close and personal if you break the bank! If you’re a huge fan of One Direction and Harry we hope you can catch the show!

Tuesday

Art:

  • The Atlanta Opera will be presenting Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street! Based on the Victorian short story The String of Pearls and brought to musical glory by Stephen Sondheim, this dark thriller is bloody fun for all. No children under 4 permitted!

Wednesday

Art:

  • Bestseller James Patterson and former President Bill Clinton will be in town speaking about their collaborative fiction novel – The President is Missing. Come out to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre to see the pres and hear about the novel! The event starts at 7:30pm.

Sports:

  • Atlanta’s newest fitness studio has been right under our noses for years! Head over to the Georgia Aquarium for their Workout by the Water fitness series featuring yoga, pilates, and bootcamp fitness classes! This week you’re set for a great pilates class. Classes are only $10 and run from 6:30-7:30. All proceeds benefit the Georgia Aquarium’s research and conservation efforts! Doors open at 6pm, and be sure to bring your mat, towel, and water. You must register online!

Thursday

Bars & Brews:

  • Get some beer and bring Dad along for Father’s Night Out at Second Self Beer Company! Your ticket includes a shirt, 3 pints, a charcuterie board (fancy fancy), and a cigar! You dad will love these gifts and the most important gift of all, quality time with their kids. Also, beer! The event costs $50 and starts at 5pm.
  • Treat your dad to an evening at City Winery! They’ll be opening up their huge patio with a hearty menu brought to you by their Big Green Egg, and built to pair with the finest whiskey. Oh, and they’re bringing the whiskey: bourbon, rye, japanese whiskey, and scotch. It’s all there and City Winery Beverage Director JR Smith will guide you through what makes each whiskey special. Admission includes food, six pours (1 oz) and a welcome cocktail. Dinner is at 7pm and costs $75.

Music:

  • The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will come to Piedmont Park on Thursday for a free public show! Assistance Conductor Stephen Mulligan will lead the ASO through a program including pieces from West Side Story, Candide, and Tchaikovsky. Arrive early, as seating is free and open! You’re free to bring food and drink, but no grills and alcohol are allowed (you can buy alcohol at the event). No pets either, sorry puppers! The show starts at 7:30pm.

Friday

Art:

  • The Atlanta Opera will be presenting Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street! Based on the Victorian short story The String of Pearls and brought to musical glory by Stephen Sondheim, this dark thriller is bloody fun for all. No children under 4 permitted!

Music:

  • The Dirty Doors – Atlanta’s Finest Doors tribute band, will be at Venkman’s celebrating the 50th anniversary of their hit album Waiting for the Sun. Come out to hear the greats! The show costs $10 and starts at 10pm.

Social:

  • The Juneteenth Atlanta festival is in town! Juneteenth Atlanta is a 3-day black history music festival and parade. Festivities will include shopping with black owned businesses, non stop performance’s, family reunions, father’s day weekend celebrations, afro-fashion-extravaganza, speakers, top musical bands, marching bands, community leaders, community vendors, family activities, workshops, martial arts, yoga, chess tables, car clubs, cycle clubs, voter registration, spoken word, bounce houses and much more. The festival is commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the 50th year remembrance of his assassination. The festival runs all weekend. Friday starts at 1pm.

Saturday

Art:

Bars & Brews:

  • Atlanta Beer Festivals will host its 8th annual Atlanta Summer Beer Fest at Historic Old 4th Ward Park! You’ll have walking access to 200+ beers, wines, and ciders plus live music and a DJ tent! Your ticket includes entry, entertainment, a souvenir cup, and all drink samples. Tickets run $40 in advance, $45 after June 7th, and $55 day-of. The festival runs from 4-8pm.
  • The Totally 90’s Bar Crawl is coming to Buckhead! Roam through the heart of the Buckhead bar scene with 8 participating venues, themed drink specials, and dance contests! As a bonus, celeb guest Kel Mitchell of Kenan and Kel will be there! The event runs from 2-9pm and starts at $20.

Food and Drink:

  • Spend your weekend celebrating the greatest sandwich ever invented at the Atlanta Grilled Cheese Festival! Two days of grilled cheesy goodness, and at the end of it all we’ll crown the Best Grilled Cheese in Atlanta! There are early and late sessions, but if you come for the early session you can stay for both so we say get in early and eat your heart out! There’s also live music and beer! The festival costs $27 and starts at noon.
