Best Events This Weekend in Atlanta: 5/18 – 5/20

This week we’re trying something new! Please let us know what you think of our new site format. We hope you love our Featured Events posts and new calendar views!

This week is going to be lots of fun! Personally I’m still recovering from Shaky Beats, but we highly recommend you check out some of the comedy nights going on this week – especially Benjamin Franklin: American Gigolo at Dad’s Garage! Then the 15th Annual Atlanta Craft Beer Festival is an absolute must. For those that didn’t get enough EDM last week, Halogen is back at Housewerk this Saturday with a rooftop set!

Friday

Comedy:

  • Come to Dad’s Garage to see the Hamilton-inspired show, Benjamin Franklin: American Gigolo. This will surely be the next great Founding Father story. Benjamin Franklin may have never been President of the United States, but his tale as King of the Players Club is a story worth telling. The show starts at 8pm and runs $12.50.
  • The Whole World Improv Theatre will be staging a show to celebrate the life of performer Carlos Giron! The show will feature special guests, clips from Carlos, and his most famous characters. The show starts at 9pm and tickets are only $24.

Saturday

Bars & Brews:

  • The East Atlanta Craft Beer Festival will be back again this year in East Atlanta’s Brownwood Park. It features samplings of over 200 craft beers! All ticketholders receive a souvenir tasting glass, and VIP ticketholders will receive early admission and exclusive beer samples. This festival is all volunteer crafted and staffed, so all proceeds are donated to local non-profit organizations and community projects. Spend well! The event runs from 12-4pm and costs $60 per ticket.

Clubs:

  • Fresh from their set at Shaky Beats, local Atlanta’ s premiere EDM duo Halogen will be back at work, Housewerk to be specific. Come out to Edgewood to see Halogen and friends including Popeska, Fifi, Panski, Jax & more! This will be a rooftop party and to break in the new venue they’re giving away the first 50 tickets for free before 6pm. Get there and get some bottomless mimosas and fishbowls at the sunset! Tickets are only $17.89 and the event runs nice and early for the older crowd from 4pm-midnight.

Food and Drink:

  • Tortillas La Banderita is putting on their 2nd annual, 2 day Margarita and Taco Fest! Come to Old Fourth Ward Park and try the best tacos and margs from the best restaurants and food trucks the ATL has to offer. The event is free to attend and only tacks on $6 for a drink wristband! There will be over 40 taco vendors and 12 bars so long lines ain’t no thang.

Music:

Social:

  • If you’re interested at ALL in coding, come out to MASS Collective for a four hour course in the basics of code for the Arduino platform! Participants will learn how to use libraries, read, clean, and store analog inputs, control outputs, and the basics of embedded firmware design best practices. Each student will get an Arduino Pro Micro, a temperature sensor, an RGB LED, and the necessary USB for programming the Arduino. Bring your laptop! This is an easy way to get started in embedded coding so I highly recommend it! The class runs from 10am-2pm and costs $50.

Sunday

Food and Drink:

  • Tortillas La Banderita is putting on their 2nd annual, 2 day Margarita and Taco Fest! Come to Old Fourth Ward Park and try the best tacos and margs from the best restaurants and food trucks the ATL has to offer. The event is free to attend and only tacks on $6 for a drink wristband! There will be over 40 taco vendors and 12 bars so long lines ain’t no thang.
  • Come out to Venkman’s for delicious brunch, bottomless mimosas, and some swinging speakeasy jazz courtesy of the Hot Club of Atlanta! The food is worth the price and the music is free!
  • The Optimist in West Midtown is throwing its pre-summer crawfish boil this Sunday to celebrate the warm weather! They’ll be breaking out Louisiana-style crawfish, drinks, and Cajun-inspired live music right next to their famous Oyster bar. Get your tickets and get some great food this Sunday!

Music:

  • Diane Durrett & Soul Suga will be having their Album Release Show at Eddie’s Attic from 5-7pm on Sunday. Even Sting called Diane Durrett “damn good”, so you know she’s the real deal. Come out to Eddie’s Attic for the Album Release show! Tickets run $17.
